Olympic Qualifiers

Keeping you all up to date on our International hockey teams…

In the coming months both the mens and womens international squads have the chance to qualify for the London Olympics.

The women are playing in Antwerp in Belgium from the 17th to the 25th March.We’re currently ranked 14 in the world will travel to Belgium where we face Spain, Belgium, Russia, France and Mexico who are ranked 11, 16, 21, 25 and 30 respectively. The winner of the tournament goes to London. The mens competition is being held right in our own back yard in UCD from the 10th to the 18th March. It’s a fantastic opportunity to get out and watch some top class hockey. Tickets are selling fast – you can get them on the Irish Hockey Website, by phone: 01 7163262 or you can email: tickets@hockey.ie The Irish team are currently ranked 17th and are up against Korea (ranked 6th), Malaysia (14th), Russia (20th), Chile (24th), Ukraine (31th). Its the same deal as the women’s – winner takes all securing the last spot in the London 2012 Olympics. So all support is needed to the help get the boys into the Olympics!

1sts – 7.00pm – 8.30pm
2nds – 7.00pm – 8.00pm
3rds – 8.30pm – 9.30pm
4ths – 8.00pm – 9.00pm
5ths – 9.00pm – 10.00pm
6ths – 9.00pm – 10.00pm

*Matches start back on Saturday 7th of January!

The last few games before Christmas are nearly upon us! The first half of the hockey season is almost done and dusted. It has flown by!! Most teams in the club are finished this weekend on the Saturday 10th. The 2nds finish up on the 17th of December. The Juniors have their Christmas Party on Sunday 11th of December. All help is welcomed at this and if you’re lucky, you too might get to meet Santa on the day.

Another good weekend for Botanic with the 1sts, 2nds, and 3rds all notching up wins. The 4ths managed a good draw against Newbridge, as did the 5ths in Alex. Unfortunately the 6ths fell to the Gar (and got soaked in the process from what I hear!) but will be fighting to get into winning ways next weekend when they take on Monkstown.

Better weekend for Botanic!

The second weekend of the season worked out much better than the first, thank god! The 1sts, 2nds, and 6ths all registering wins at home, while the 3rds, 4ths and 5ths were unlucky in their games away.

League Time

Not the greatest start to the season this weekend with the 1sts, 2nds, 3rds and 6ths all finishing on the losing side of their matches in disastrous weather conditions on Saturday. Meanwhile the 4ths and 5ths didn’t even get to play due to the torrential rain and subsequent flooding of the pitch.

The results looked like this:
Malahide Fingal 2-1 Botanic 1sts
Bray 2nds 3-1 Botanic 2nds
Botanic 3rds 0-1 Mullingar
Botanic 4 v University College Dublin 5, Botanic 5 v Newbridge 4 (both called off due to waterlogged pitch)
Botanic 6ths 0 – 1 Swords 3

Well at least that’s all behind us now, onwards and upwards for Botanic! Train hard, keep positive and dig in girls! Let this be the last of the dodgy weekends! C’mon Botanic!!
